(Disclaimer: This thread was previously posted on HF.)
Doesn't really seem like a question asked often.
What do you choose? Saints Row or Grand Theft Auto?
I'd have to go with Saints Row.
Grand Theft Auto has good games in their series, but the only one's I'm really a fan of are San Andreas and GTA IV.
However, I'm a fan of every single Saints Row game. Played them all and love them all.

Saints Row is better, in my opinion.
It has a nice storyline and it makes me just binge it, play for 10 hours a day, whilst on the other side, GTA is overrated and not really creative.
And infested with kids.

I'm like you in reverse. I only like Saints Row 3 and later. I didn't like the first and second Saints Row games.
But I pretty much like all of the Grand Theft Auto games except for the first blocky 2D one.
I didn't like the first Saints Row game because it felt too serious and too much like a GTA clone.
Once Saints Row started getting wacky and utterly insane, I started to like the series.

While I do enjoy both games, I have to say I prefer GTA. Saints Row is fun but it gets a little TOO whacky. It's not bad to be a little bit out of the ordinary but I feel like they overdo it a bit. The first one was serious and after that, each installment gets more and more ridiculous. It somehow feels very repetitive. Grand Theft Auto can feel repetitive too but they add more realistic and relevant features in each game. GTA V was absolutely amazing.

I also prefer GTA. Saints Row is too over the top for my taste, even more so than GTA. While GTA has some very unrealistic scenarios, the story itself remained serious for the most part.

I love Saints Row. I used to like Grand Theft Auto. Then I met Saints Row. It was love at first play. I made a clean break with GTA. Hopefully, there are no hard feelings. After all, Auto was seeing other people. :) Seriously, I just like the gameplay, versatility and pace of Saints Row better than GTA. I also love customizing characters, so Saints Row is a dream come true. Grand Theft Auto is also kind of sexist. Saints Row makes jokes, but you can be a female lead character. Plus, Johnny Gat. I should have just posted that last sentence. Nothing more need be said.

They're very different. Saints Row has a more light-hearted and whacky feel, whereas GTA is mostly more serious. I feel like GTA is a better overall game, but I like the humor and character customization of Saints Row.

I have to go with GTA just because I feel it's the better game, but I have SO much fun playing Saints Row. I feel like it's basically GTA with none of the seriousness, stripped down to the goofy fun stuff. So depends on the mood I guess.
