Non-Mainstream Games

I know when people say "classic" or "old-school" Nintendo, most people tend to think of the same few games: Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Mortal Kombat.  What are some games that you have played that don't usually some to mind for other people? I'll put down my own example.  I used to play the 1992 X-Men game.  It was really corny, really fun and most people have no idea what I am talking about when I mention it.

I loved all parts of the Earthbound/Mother series. They were for NES, Snes and GBA.
I usually dislike battling enemies the J-RPG way, but those games were so original and fun that I didn't mind at all and replayed them many times!
I highly recommend them to everyone, especially Mother 3. It has really smart and touching plot.

My absolute, all-time favourite NES game is... *drum-roll* Crystalis!  (Although I prefer the boldness of the original Japanese version's name, which literally translates as GodSlayer!)  I consider Crystalis to be by far the greatest Zelda-esque sword-and-sorcery action adventure game of the system!  (Although both similar The Legend of Zelda games are, of course, also absolutely fantastic!)

Some of my other favourite NES games, whether they can be considered mainstream or not, are: the six Megaman games (especially 2-&-3), Castlevania, Batman, Batman: Return of the Joker, Blaster Master, Metroid, Super Mario Bros 1-3, Bubble Bobble, Dragon Warrior, Journey to Silius, Star Tropics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spy vs Spy, Adventure Island 1-3, The Adventures of Lolo 1-3, Bucky O'Hare, Battletoads, Whomp 'Em, and Battlechess!

Ah, yeah. Road Rash was a classic, though not everyone knew about it. It was a fun motorcycling racer, with an aggressive edge to it. You didn't see other games where you could hit your opponent out of the way. Then, there's the fact that the cops could pursue and arrest you. I'm guessing that's something that GTA was indirectly inspired by. Anyway, even today, there aren't really any racing games like Road Rash.

I've always wanted to play Crystalis. I remember it popping up in Nintendo Power when I was a kid, and I've watched speedruns of it since that make it look like a lot of fun.

As for less-popular, non-mainstream games: Clash at Demonhead, Dragon Spirit, Star Tropics, River City Ransom, Smash TV (though it used to frustrate me like crazy), the Lolo games, Galaxy 5000... any of the Capcom Disney games... there are lots. I've probably forgotten half the games I played as a kid.

Another great game was "Captain America & The Avengers". The game play was incredible, awesome graphics and music, great difficulty and good boss fights.

Oh, hey, I remember renting this one. I sucked at it, but I remember it being a lot of fun. You get to play as Hawkeye and Iron Man along with Captain America, don't you?

Yeah, you indeed can use Hawkeye and Captain, but I guess you cant use Iron Man (as far as I know).
