Ubisoft announces that there will be no new Assassin's Creed game in 2016

Holy crap. It's... it's like they actually listened to people, for once, when their fans told them to stop making these damned games so quickly.

I'll be interested to see if they can keep to that promise, or if they'll break down when their overall sales start to flag a little and their execs panic.

I think there's too many assassins creed games already, I really enjoyed them in the beginning, played up until brotherhood, still wanna try revelations but I don't think I'll go outta my way to get the others.

Thank god. I remember my friend raving to me about all the new AC games and when I actually played them in person, they were super lame. Not to mention they're all cookie cutter stealth Ubisoft playgrounds that they've barely able to abandon. I'm really not a fan of this "open world" formula that they do, and I think if the games stuck to one focus there would be a lot more substance. Watch Dogs was perhaps the biggest sufferer of this. Games like Rainbow Six Siege in comparison are a breath of fresh air...

They seem to work on the same principle as the Star Trek movies in that every other one is good, and the ones in-between are... not that amazing. The PSP / Vita games kinda muck the ordering up, but with the main games it's a somewhat consistent pattern. Regardless, if you've played one of them (except perhaps the fourth, where you got to be a pirate) you've come close to playing them all.

I'm so glad they decided that. Now the question is whether they will actually be working on them harder to make them more enjoyable or they'll keep using what already works. I haven't played any AC game since Unity because the franchise lost its appeal too damn quickly. I was wondering why, I figured it had something to do with me getting bored because I played them too much, so I went back and replayed AC 4 and AC 2, the best in the franchise so far, and I have confirmed that I am NOT bored of them. They're the ones that are being boring by being too repetitive.

With that said, Syndicate has received a lot of good feedback so I might give it a try soon enough.

Syndicate is quite enjoyable but it suffers from the same symptom as many new games, it's just too short and you can't even get all the upgrades for your character by the time you finish the game, if that's supposed to add replay-ability then in my opinion they missed the mark.

That's awesome that they're finally willing to take some time between the games.
I bet that fans will appreciate being listened to.
I was shocked how quickly the series has spread.... It's like one day the first one came out, and the next it had like 5 sequels.
It's crazy that every year there was another major Assasin's Creed game published.

I also sort of realized how quick they are to release, and surely thought it couldn't be possible that they were all quality for such a high release rate. And yes, I was proved correct when I played AC3 at my friend's place. The tarnish also seeped into Watch Dogs, which was another major disappointment.

I wouldn't call Watch_Dogs a major disappointment, but I'll agree it could have been better. It had a really promising start - the first few missions, particularly the very first, were pretty awesome - and the ending was decent enough, when the city's exploding from hacks. It just got too repetitive and simplistic. Given that your dude was a master hacker you'd think he would have a greater range of available technical wizardry up his sleeve.

I agree. The beginning and the end of the game were both fantastic and had amazing moods, but in between it just felt outlandish and strange. It was like there was almost zero payoff from Aiden doing anything in the near middle of the campaign, and I felt like they didn't explore a lot of concepts that had a lot more opportunity. The human trafficking ring in particular was also disappointing, it felt very underexplored. Games like Hitman do strip clubs, brothels, etc. in general a lot better, and that's me speaking from Blood Money which I started playing just a few days ago.
