Hype
Console Gaming on The Decline?
#1
I just read this story at Asymco, by Horace Dediu Dirk Schmidt. It's about how console sales have peaked, and now they seem to be declining. It seems that people are spending way more time gaming on their phones than on consoles.

I pretty much know this is true from personal experience to be true. I have an Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 2. I rarely play on any of them. I haven't even turned them on for about a month now, and according to that post on Asymco I'm not the only one that's like this.

Horace Dediu also posted this tweet:

Here are some sales charts as well that also show the decline in console sales, which in turn causes a decline in the console gaming community:

Now here's the question to everyone:
Is console gaming dying?

Agreed. Unlike during N64/PS1/PS2's era, console games are really getting lesser and lesser nowadays.

I played games on phone for 3 months then i am bored of them. I then switched back to console and PC (mostly PC).

Phone's screen is too small for my taste, i always like giant monsters and in such a small screen i can't feel how cool those giant monsters are. As for console, they are suffering from frame rate issues and various issues...

I prefer to enjoy games on PC any day!

Agreed, the consoles are just falling behind in power. That's the main thing.

I have to agree that console gaming is on the decline, even though I play console myself. I don't have enough money to pay for a gaming PC so I guess I'll be the last person playing on consoles XD

The way I look at it, a gaming PC is just worth about 5 next-gen consoles in one. Because a PC should last about 5 years and if you add 5 next-gen console prices together then it'll be about $1,000 which is around the average price of a gaming PC.

I think they is always going to be a market for console gamers who don’t care how good the hardware is as long as it play games with a few button presses but I do think more people will go to PC gaming due to the variety of new games that come out on PC vs the endless squeals you see on consoles.

Personally I don't think so, you will always have console gamers (me being one of them) although, with all the additional features a console can do now, they may, however, sway to a direction to an all in one entertainment system, with apps such as Netflix, NowTV, and whatnot being used frequently.

Console gaming will always have a special place in my heart.  I've been gaming on a console since I was about 5 or 6 years old.  I can't imagine playing video games with my consoles.
