I just read this story at Asymco, by Horace Dediu Dirk Schmidt. It's about how console sales have peaked, and now they seem to be declining. It seems that people are spending way more time gaming on their phones than on consoles.
I pretty much know this is true from personal experience to be true. I have an Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 2. I rarely play on any of them. I haven't even turned them on for about a month now, and according to that post on Asymco I'm not the only one that's like this.

Here are some sales charts as well that also show the decline in console sales, which in turn causes a decline in the console gaming community:
