Do you believe in God?

I find it really interesting that we have so many religious people here. I wouldn't have expected it at all.

Will respond to the Richard Dawkins thing later, haven't had time to fully read it yet. Though I gotta say "Existential Positivists" is one of the best things I've read today.

I was quite shocked too, I genuinely thought the deeper into IT you go the less religious populace becomes.

I'd like to know what religious people think of atheists, do you pity us? Are you angered by us? Confused? Have to avoid? etc.

I do not believe that there is any sort of omnipotent super being out there somewhere that created us and everything and all that we do has a purpose and deeper meaning.
I have a very good amount of reasons and could probably talk about them for a very long time, but I'm not going to go in to that amount of detail here.

The short list is as follows:

-The only evidence of any religion being the truth is usually a couple thousand year old book/writings or the simple fact that enough people believe in it and have faith
-There are literally thousands of belief systems spanning tens of thousands of years and everyone thinks that theirs is THE one. That many variables makes every individual religion less believable by mere volume of options.
-So much **** has been pulled throughout history in the name of God that if he were up there he would have stepped in by now and told everyone to chill the fuck out and stop killing people and claiming it is in His name.
-(In relation to my last point) If there were a God he sees what we do to each other every day and all of the horrible things that occur (often in His name), and does absolutely zero about it. We are supposed to be the favourite children (made in His image and everything) of a being that is supposed to be omnipotent and can literally remake the world as he sees fit. So why would a being that can blink the evil/hate out of our world in an instant not just do it? It all boils down to either God not existing, God existing and not being able to actually affect our world meaning He's not a God, or God existing and using His omnipotence to be malevolent toward our world.

I understand that those words might be offensive to some, but I can assure you that my beliefs in absolutely no way affect how I treat religious people or their beliefs.
What we choose to see the universe as has zero bearing on how good or shitty of a person you should be.
I only ever get my hackles up when someone is being a douche and using faith as a weapon to spread ignorance or hate.
That isn't what faith is about regardless of my opinion on the matter.

On the topic of kids being force fed their parents beliefs, I am super opposed to it in a big way.
Kids are stupid, they don't know shit all about the world, and they should not be fed something that they can't understand and told that it is fact.
My mom believes in some sort of higher power but does not believe that you have to go to a specific building and fork over money to do so.
My dad has zero religious inclinations and is very solidly an atheist, much like myself.
They never forced me to believe one way or the other because they understand that it should be a choice, not something you inherit.
I went to vacation bible school as a kid because I wanted to, I did my high school volunteer work in churches (and a library run by those church ladies).
So I have dabbled in the religious world and made a decision when I was young that it wasn't what I believe.
I respect my parents greatly for trusting me to find my own path and can't imagine my life if they didn't.

That got sort of lengthy, but that is hard to avoid when explaining anything about what a person believes.

Science at the moment can't explain everything that happens. People of different religions spread their own message, and beliefs, however, I do believe in god because I have been a Christian since birth. It's just how my lifestyle is, and how it will stay.

Yes, why not? We have no proof he/they don't exist, non the less if hes real that doesn't mean I believe in what he stands for.

I believe in my own beliefs meaning I don't necessarily follow one religion, as I believe in many different things from many different religions

You need to prove that he exists before asking people to prove he doesn't exist. It's like asking somebody to open a door that isn't there.
Even if he exists there is no way to know what he stands for and would it make a difference? And I think that combining a lot of things from different religions is the best thing a person can do, shape the God you want to believe in and he shall exist(for you).
