Do you judge people based on what kind of music they listen?
#11
It seems to me if I judged other people based on a choice in music, I might have no friends. Okay, I would at least have some. Still, I would never think of judging someone based on personal interest. In fact, in some respects this almost seems quite bigoted.

I can see how one might judge an artist based on lyrics and music; However, individuals often listen to music from a number of different genres. Some have been known to listen to artists for years, then suddenly realize the music listened to was homophobic or racist in nature and tone.

As such, I remain somewhat torn between censorship and non-censorship based on lyrics of any given artist. If lyrics are more of a verbal abusive nature, or, gang oriented, then I have issues. However, as a Poet-At-Large who has always denounced censorship, I also believe in artists having the right to free expression. So, tell me, what's an artist to do? Beynd that, most all artists are judged on some type of scale. After all, if not for judgement, we would not have the Grammy awards now would we?

To be honest I do judge people a little bit by what music they listen to. I'm a bit of a music snob and have always been that way for some reason. I just don't understand why some people choose to listen to absolutely horrible music. It grinds my gears. I'm working on being more accepting, though.

Okay, I've read a few additional posts. And, I have a thought. Isn't there a difference in judging a person, and telling a lot about that person by the music they listen to? Yes or No? I thought of this after thinking about having worn a bright tie-dye to a Ministry show to meet some friends who love metal, not really my forte' - However, I loved my friends, so when asked, I was thrilled to go and enjoy their company. After all, I'm sure neither was really into poetry when they came to the Poetry Slam to watch my performance. Still, if others who didn't know I was there with friends I'm sure there would at least been some judgement - And, there was some judgement in my wearing a tie-dye to a metal show even from my friends. So, there can also be misconceptions based on fashion as well as music, especially when outside one's element.

I never judge anyone based in what they listen to. Why should you do that? I doesn't mean anything weather you listen to metal, hip hop or mainstream pop. I listen to all kinds of styles so it would be impossible to categorize me.

I don't judge their personalities based on their musical preferences. That being said, sometimes you can read their current moods. My older sister used to be kind of passive-aggressive. When she was mad, she would blast "angry" songs. Basically, anything kind of violent or just plain angry.

I mean I think we can all say no and we are good and pure, but we all kind of do to a certain extent not like it is the killer in the factor of how much I like them but it has a bit of a sway.

Not at all, I hate those who do. I hate how people think I'm aggressive and violent just because I love Metal, Rap, and Rock music. I like loud aggressive music, that doesn't mean I'm aggressive.

I don't judge people with what kind of music they listen to at all. I myself like all different kinds of music depending on my mood. Music lets you enjoy the times and relax. Music also heals you. Music is great no matter what kind of music you like. All different ages of people like different kinds of music like the oldies KKOL here in Hawaii is what I listen to for my enjoyment though there are a lot of stations locally. Enjoy music!

I try not to - it's better to judge people on the basis of their character. The thing is, music is part of it.
If you only care about gossip, shopping and Nicky Minaj's songs, I'm probably gonna side-eye the hell of you.

Everyone judges people based on everything, it's just whether that judgement is good or bad. It is fun to get to know people by asking what types of music they listen to. You just don't have to be an **** about it. Music is the nature of life for it is not something sought for an ulterior means. Life is not a judgement game unless you make it, which we have done so it is kind of late for that. People that listen to rap and hip hop amuse me because they look like a soldier standing at attention and marching to a beat which isn't even a rhythm.
